This photo session was a part of the Indian wedding day for Karen and Aditya which you could see here on the blog. They did their official ceremony in Gurdwara Nanak Niwas in Richmond, BC. For pictures, we chose Minoru Park. Minoru Park was just a few minutes drive from the temple. We looked outside in the temple and saw some of the very first snowflakes coming down. It became very cold that day and the weather forecast promised a snowfall. Everybody hoped it would not happen because we would have to look for a shelter instantly.

We ended up being so wrong! I loved the addition of snow for this beautiful session with snowflakes in the background. The first few pictures we took were stunning. My clients loved it. We moved from one spot to another, drinking hot coffee and having a great time. The snow did not last very long and because the couple started getting cold and tired so, we took a break.

Doli and Pani Varna

Doli is a very emotional part of Sikh weddings. It refers to the ceremony in which the bride leaves her parents home after her wedding. Today, Doli refers to the actual ceremony of a bride departing the home of her parents. Pani Varna ritual takes place on the couple’s arrival at the groom’s place. While an aarti is performed by the mother-in-law with a pitcher of water, the bride pushes over a pot of rice before entering her new home. We arrived at Aditya’s house at dusk.

After all the rituals there was a time to play enjoyable traditional games the rest of the evening. They are an amazing couple, Karen & Aditya, congratulations on your special day!
